An Empty Mind is So Full
63Clear your thoughts and see clearly
An empty mind is so full of creative space and innovative opportunities. It is like a brand new canvas, urging the artist to begin to play, or a movie screen waiting for creative visual delights to dance across the surface.
One of the most powerful tools you can ever develop, to help you with your personal creative insights is the ability to clear your mind at will. Most people will not even believe that such a thing is possible, let alone attempt to achieve it.
It is possible, I have lived with it for many years. It has simplified my life and given me an underlying feeling of peace, which shows up in my art. I am a seascape artist, specialising in the theme of ‘peace and beauty’. Without an empty mind, my work would be as busy as my thoughts.
It does not mean that I do not think, fantasise or worry at times, however at will I can move into a non-judgmental space where I become the observer of a situation and not another hysterical participant.
The idea is quite simple – try to find a space between the endless string of thoughts that rattle across your mind. Then expand this space. A little at first, then a bit more and slowly widen the gap. Then open it often so that eventually and naturally, silence becomes a normal part of your busy day.
This moment ‘NOW’ can only be experienced fully by focusing on this instant. If this instant is full of thoughts that are always leading to more thoughts then you cannot be at peace. The intuition speaks in the now, it does not exist in the past or the future, it exists now. To hear it, you have to be here now.
Peace can only be found by living in the moment. Peace lies in the silence of the gap between your thoughts.
Your thoughts are a constant chatter about the past and the future, there is no present moment in a noisy mind. Life is happening in the instant called now but your busy thoughts keep you each side of this perfect moment. You swing between your past experiences and your future fantasies. Now is where life is happening. Most people are somewhere else.
Practice many times a day. When you can do it naturally, you will have constant clarity of thinking and peace. It will also keep you more calm and stop the emotional peaks caused by worry and fear.
A blank mind is a natural meditative state.
